Therapeutic Indications
Sassafras, a deciduous tree is native to eastern parts of the USA , it grows up to 40 meters in height, with slender branches and a soft spongy orange-brown bark and small yellow green flowers. The bark and wood are both aromatic. The production of the
oil is Mainly from Florida to Canada and into Mexico.
Traditionally, this has been used for the treatment of high blood pressure, rheumatism, arthritis, gout, menstrual and kidney problems as well as for skin complaints. The wood and the bark will produce a bright yellow
dye.
Commercially the oil that is used is safrol free and is used in a limited extent as a flavouring as well as toiletries and cosmetics.
Storage
Sassafras oil should be stored in a cool, dry area until it is used. Once opened, refrigeration and tightly closing the cap will prolong its shelf life.
