Contraindications
Pine oil may be irritating to individuals with sensitive skin.
Therapeutic Indications
Traditional use by the Native Americans was as a preventative against scurvy. They also used it to stuff mattresses and to repel lice and fleas. It was used as an inhalant for bronchial catarrh, asthma, and blocked sinuses. The pine kernels were used as a
restorative after a long illness.
Therapeutically it is used for cuts, lice, excessive perspiration, arthritis, gout, muscular aches and pains, poor circulation and rheumatism. It is also of value when treating asthma, bronchitis, coughs and sore throat,
colds and flu. It is being used to treat the symptoms of fatigue; nervous exhaustion and stress related problems.
Commercially, pine oil is used to scent a number of household and personal care products such as room sprays, soaps, detergents, vaporizer liquids, cough and cold preparations and colognes. It is a flavour ingredient in
major food products including alcoholic beverages and soft drinks.
Storage
Pine oil should be stored in a cool, dry area until it is used. Once opened, refrigeration and tightly closing the cap will prolong its shelf life.
