Therapeutic Indications
This highly aromatic plant, is an evergreen woody shrub that grows up to 1 meter high with pale green, narrow, linear leaves and flowers on blunt spikes of a beautiful violet-blue colour. The floral light and clear aroma of Lavender is familiar to most people. In spite of the fact that this plant is indigenous to the Mediterranean region, it is now cultivated all over the world. The oil is mainly produced in France, Spain, Italy, England, Australia, Tasmania, Yugoslavia, Turkey, Russia, Bulgaria, and Greece.

Lavender has a long established tradition as a folk remedy. It is used in cosmetic waters, insect repellents, baths, room sprays, toilet waters, perfumes, colognes, massage oils, sachets, salves, skin lotions, to scent linen, and as a reviving, soothing oil. The essential oil of lavender is restorative and tonic for fainting and nervous palpitations, spasms and colic. To help relieve fatigue a few drops of lavender are placed in a foot bath.

Applied externally, lavender will relieve a toothache, neuralgia, and sprains. It acts as a powerful stimulant in disorders when there is a lack of nerve power.

Therapeutically lavender oil is regarded as the most versatile therapeutic essence. It is used in treating abscesses, acne, allergies, athlete's foot, boils, bruises, burns, dandruff, dermatitis, earache, eczema, inflammations, insect bites, ringworm, spots, sores on all skin types, sunburn, and wounds. It is used to help relieve the pain of lumbago, muscular aches, rheumatism, and sprains. It is helpful in treating asthma, bronchitis, catarrh, halitosis, laryngitis, throat infections and whooping cough. lavender is used to ease the pain of abdominal cramps, colic, flatulence and nausea. The discomfort of having the flu will be relieved with lavender. Another area that has found benefit from Lavender is in the treatment of depression, headache, hypertension, insomnia, migraine, nervous tension and stress related conditions.

Commercially, lavender is used by the pharmaceutical industry as a fragrance in antiseptic ointments. It is used in all types of soaps, lotions, detergents, cosmetics, perfumes, and especially in toilet water and colognes. It is used as a flavouring agent in foods as well as in alcoholic beverages and soft drinks.

Storage
Lavender oil should be stored in a cool, dry area until it is used. Once opened, refrigeration and tightly closing the cap will prolong its shelf life.

Usage
Insomnia:
A few drops on a pillow or in a therapeutic bath encourages deep refreshing sleep.

Headaches, Stress & Tension: Use Lavender oil in a vaporizer, or apply directly (undiluted) to the temples and back of neck.

Tight Muscles: In a massage oil blend Lavender unwinds tense, tight muscles and makes a calming, pain relieving addition during childbirth.

Insect Bites & Stings: Apply directly (undiluted) on insect bites or stings - bee, ant, wasp, blue bottle, spider or minor burns for the most comforting, pain-relieving first aid any skin could desire.

Rashes: A lavender oil therapeutic bath soothes rashes and skin irritations and comforts fretful infants that are irritable or teething.

Acne, Eczema, Psoriasis & Dermatitis: Lavender makes a superlative skin or facial oil for troubled skin conditions and gives temporary relief to the symptoms of eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis by soothing the inflammation, allowing for healthy tissue growth and scar prevention. For the treatment of psoriasis, do not use for prolonged periods without consulting a qualified health practitioner.

Ringworm & Tinea: Dilute lavender oil and apply directly on topical areas affected by ringworm and tinea.
